Chip was born in Alexandria, VA, on June 20, 1944, to Raymond Keller Perkins and Elizabeth Solum Perkins. Soon thereafter, they relocated to Concord, NH, where he resided for the remainder of his life and made lifelong friendships, which he made a priority and considered them as extended family. His captivating personality made him popular throughout high school and college where he was a star football player at Concord High School and continued his football career at the University of New Hampshire after spending one year at Norwich University. Thereafter, he attended Suffolk Law School in Boston and then followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a lawyer and joining his practice at Perkins Law in Concord, NH, where he settled down and raised a family. Chip had a kind, generous heart and would assist anyone who needed his help. He was a protector in every sense of the word.
Although Chip was a lawyer by trade, he had a real passion for renovation. During spare time away from the office, you would find Chip working on one of his properties often covered in sweat and paint and quite possibly throwing out some colorful language. When the project was finished, he was always proud to show off his hard-work before starting yet another one.
Chip was always nonstop on the go. Before starting his workday at his practice, he would often wake at 4am to meet his friends to play racquetball. Physical fitness and constantly staying busy was just who Chip was. He loved adventure, being outdoors, and the thrill of riding his BMW motorcycle every chance he could get. On a whim, he would jump on his BMW and arrive at his daughters’ homes near and far, in both NH and NC! He loved to surprise his kids; that being one of his favorite pastimes. He also traveled through 10 countries in Europe by motorcycle and it was the trip of a lifetime. He loved the National Parks and Historic Battlefields and visited most of them. He followed his son, Brandon, also a free spirit, all around the globe wherever his life took him. Alaska and Norway always held special places in his heart.
Loved by everyone who met him, Chip was a gregarious, fun-loving, adventurous, family man. He was an avid skier, and taught all of his kids to ski as soon as they could walk. He enjoyed summers at the family lake house on Little Lake Sunapee; swimming, boating and putting on the most incredible fireworks display every 4th of July. Chip always turned into a kid when it involved fireworks. He filled with excitement showing off his firework stash to his kids and later to his grandkids. A summer wasn’t complete without a trip to an amusement park and a spin on his favorites - the log ride and roller coaster. He also found solace and peace in the woods in Webster, NH, along the Blackwater River.
Chip enjoyed fatherhood with his three beautiful children and was grandfather to five: four grandsons and one granddaughter. As the usual jokester he was, Chip was self-proclaimed as “Grumpy” to his grandkids. He loved being with family and always made family times special, with levity, jokes and laughter.
Chip shared his life with Tricia Marden in his later years. They supported each other and spent time with both Chip‘s and Tricia‘s families. They enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as gathering with family, gardening, barbecues, and traveling to various destinations in the convertible. They especially valued making each other laugh.
Chip leaves his two beloved daughters, Amanda Perkins and her family, Kevin, Tylen, and Eli Murray of Henniker, NH; and Erica Perkins Carpenter and her family, Greg, Liza, and Jake Carpenter of Tampa, FL. Chip leaves his partner, Tricia Marden of Concord, NH, and her two sons, Ryan Marden and his family of Rochester, NH, and Ian Marden and his family of York, ME. He also leaves his former wife and mother of his children, Pam Peterson of Concord, NH; as well as his dear friend and older brother, Raymond K Perkins Jr., and wife, Karen, of Concord, NH, and their daughters, Kendall Perkins and her family of Portsmouth, NH, and Candice Perkins of Concord, NH. He is predeceased by his son, Brandon Perkins, his grandson, Miles Murray, and his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Perkins.
We will forever remember Chip riding his favorite BMW motorcycle into the sunset.
