
Born in Malden, Massachusetts, she graduated from Malden High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from University of Massachusetts- Boston and her master's degree from Salem State. She typed her master’s thesis on her ironing board while raising three young children. After college she served in the United States Air Force and then the Mass Department of Health and Human Services retiring in 2002 after 29 years of service.
Following retirement Dottie moved with George to Concord, NH and they travelled together extensively including once a year trips to Las Vegas. She enjoyed hooking rugs, sharing time with her senior center friends, attending Broadway shows and especially listening to opera. She was the matriarch of the family and most enjoyed preparing and serving feasts for her family, friends and neighbors.
Dorothy leaves her husband of 54 years, George Stanwood Day, her brothers Richard Gunther (Jean); her daughters, Pauline Lank, (Peter Sr) and Kristine Pope (Chris) both of Concord, and a son Russell, from East Wakefield, NH. three grandchildren, Amanda Hoyt, (David )Peter Lank Jr. and Michael Pope, nephews Rob DeSousa and Reid Mcall and lifelong friends Judy and John Morris of Weymouth Ma.
She was predeceased by her brother William Gunther.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 4pm-6pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street Concord, NH. A celebration of her life will be begin at 6pm.
Burial will take place the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11am.
