Harry G. Thistle

Harry G. Thistle, 88, of Wolfeboro NH, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in Concord NH. Mr. Thistle was a long time resident of Wakefield MA before moving to Wolfboro in 1995. Most recently he resided at Whitaker Place, Penacook NH.

Born in Hartford, CT, he was the eldest son of Adam Chesley and Gladys (King) Thistle. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Warren Thistle and Clarence “Joe” Thistle.

Mr. Thistle enjoyed all kinds of music and sang in the church choir for many years. He played the trombone and harmonica and loved marching bands. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

He retired from Commercial Union Insurance of Boston, MA and owned his own insurance broker business. Mr. Thistle valued education and ensured that all of his children completed college. He took great pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Thistle was a US Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater from 1941 to 1944 and remained on active status in the Army Reserves until his retirement in 1983 at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Alma Bradbury Thistle currently a resident at The Birches of Concord NH; one daughter, Lynda L. Thistle Elliott; three sons, Robert B. Thistle, George C. Thistle and William H. Thistle; six grandchildren, Emily R. Thistle Elliott, Karyn M. Thistle, Adam J.Thistle, Robert S.Thistle, Taylor M. Thistle, and Kaylin R.Thistle.

A celebration of life will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen , NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, One Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110 or to NH Veterans Cemetery Association, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH 03303.
