Concord--Lawrence P Cannon ,96, of Concord passed away on April 6, 2022 while being lovingly cared for by his family as well as the wonderful staff of Merrimack County Nursing Home. He was born March 22, 1926 to Michael and Ruth (Sherrife) Cannon in Worcester MA.
Larry was included in what is known as The Greatest Generation. At the age of seventeen he quit school to enlist in the Navy right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He saw action aboard the U.S.S. Missouri manning 16” guns. He had the honor of witnessing the signing of the armistice aboard same ship along with the entire ships company.
In addition to raising his own children, Dad and Mom decided to bring foster children into their home in 1962. Over the course of the next twenty years, they loved and nurtured fifty-seven infants until their adoptions. Mary Grace was number forty nine and was subsequently adopted into the Cannon family.
His sense of playfulness remained throughout his lifetime. His love of the game brought him to the golf course 4-5 times per week into his early nineties. He has been an honest, generous, hardworking, kind person whom his family and friends will sorely miss.
