

Ray was born in Concord on December 21, 1940, son of the late Leslie and Lena (Gingras) Knowlton.
One of ten children, he was a lifelong resident of Concord, graduating from Concord High School, Class of ’58. At the age of 15, Ray started working at Jennings Market in Fosterville where he grew up. He had a 25-year career with the Concord Fire Department, retiring as Battalion Chief in 1993. He then worked for the Concord School District driving a bus for special needs children for 10 years.
Ray and his wife, Nancy, traveled the U.S. in 1994 and wintered in Florida for several years. He enjoyed camping with his children and grandchildren, telling them great stories. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife and close friends, attending many motorcycle rallies. One of his greatest accomplishments was building his own home.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia, grandson Travis Boyce, son-in-law Dana Ames Jr., sisters Mary Ann Bisson and Bernice Carpenter and brother Donald Knowlton.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (Drew), children Timothy and his wife Donna, Donna Ames, and Gayle Crosby and her husband Dale. Eight grandchildren, Tyler and Troy Knowlton, Sarah and Jessica Ames, Krista, Patrick, Thomas Jr. Boyce and Madison Crosby. Brother Robert Knowlton, sisters Irene Carpenter, Mildred Murdo, Jeannie Whitehouse, Ruth Corson and Doris Harrington.
Calling hours will be held from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 10am at St John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main Street, Concord
