Theresa Lydia Capozzi, age 97; passed on August 19, 2022. She was born was born on February 7, 1925 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to William Raoul and Eugenia Lydia (Descoteaux) Thibault. She married William Joseph Capozzi on March 27, 1943 in Marrieville, Rhode Island, and they moved to River Road, Bow, NH. In 1949 they bought the farmhouse next to Alexander Cemetery. They faithfully attended Holy Rosary Church. Theresa served as a lector for about ten years.
In 2002, they purchased 7 Shaker Road in Concord. In 2006, after Bill had passed away, Theresa became a Presidential Oaks Retirement Living resident and, eventually, resided in their nursing home until her passing.
Theresa had been primarily a stay-at-home Mom who enjoyed flower gardening (especially the morning glories that shaded the porch), and she helped out (reluctantly) when the family of 5 tended to the large vegetable garden that provided produce to eat fresh and to preserve for winter. She loved to knit, crochet, braid rugs, and sew for herself and others. She eagerly taught relatives, friends, and neighbors her skills. Her sewing expertise had started with her first job in a dress factory in Rhode Island. Over the years her skills became a source of pride as well as income as she sewed Vogue doll clothing in her sewing room in the 1950's and 60's, made dresses for wedding parties and gowns for proms, as well as special occasion and professional outfits. She also repaired clothing and completed alterations for local dry cleaners including One Hour Martinizing on Concord's Main Street.
The Capozzi family was known for doing things together. That included working hard on the 70-acre property with the old New Englander house seeming to always need attention, and they always went on Sunday drives to explore, learn about, and enjoy the region. The family could count on Theresa baking and decorating cakes for their birthdays.
Theresa was active in the town of Bow. She was a Brownie, Girl Scout, and 4-H leader. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, Bow School PTA, the Bow Volunteer Departments' Ladies Auxiliary, the Young at Heart Club, and the Garden Club. She was an "Avon lady" and eventually worked part time at Cutler’s Fabric store on Warren Street in Concord. After Bill retired from Treisman Brothers and became self employed, she helped with his business in many ways including accompanying him on New York City buying trips to peruse new products to order, stock, and sell. In her senior years she was a volunteer in the hospitality shop at Concord Hospital.
After Bill completely retired, the two enjoyed traveling and camping with their trailer. They visited many places including the Grand Canyon and appropriately spent many cold New Hampshire winters in Florida.
Theresa was predeceased by Bill, a son-in-law (Ron Yeager), her sister and brother-in-law (Rosamond and Albert Coia), and a niece (Denise Coia Penziner). She is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Bill) Hallet of Fort Myers, FL, Catherine Yeager (Jim Sullivan) of Concord, and Theresa (Conrad) Senkarik of Galloway, NJ, grandchildren Christine (Don) Jenkins of Nashua, Shannon Morgan (Duane Reed) of Woodinville, WA, Bob Forand (Becky) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Shelby Watson, DVM (Lee Burki) of Poulsbo, WA, and Robyn Hallet of Elmwood Park, NJ; great grandchildren Natalie and Emily Jenkins, Naia Reed, Bode Forand, and Gabriel Watson. She is also survived by a nephew, David Coia of Rhode Island.
When Theresa moved to Presidential Oaks she was accompanied by her rescued cat, Bambi. When she could no longer care for Bambi, Pope Memorial SPCA found a new forever home for her. The family would like to express appreciation to Concord Hospital medical providers, especially excellent staff at Concord Hospital's Wound and Hyperbaric Center for their treatments and compassionate care as well as AMEDISYS who provided Hospice Care.
Care has been entrusted to Bennett Funeral Home. Call Hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home located at 209 North Main Street Concord, NH 12:00pm-2:00pm with a Graveside Service and Burial to follow at Alexander Cemetery River Road Bow, NH.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Pope Memorial SPCA (94 Silk Farm Road, Concord, NH 03301), or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
