Betty Cornelius Beatty

Betty Marie Cornelius Beatty, age 84, of Sherrills Ford, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Abernathy Laurels in Newton. Born August 21, 1929 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Zar Cornelius and Eleanor Drum Cornelius. Betty worked for many years with Broyhill Furniture Company. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. As a child, she was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church. She later joined Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church where she was an Honorary Life member of Presbyterian Women. Betty loved flowers, canning vegetables, and serving and helping others. She loved working in the church. If anyone was in need, Betty was always there. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Peggy Childers; brother, James Cornelius; and son-in-law, James Beach, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Obed Dane Beatty; daughters, Greetle Beach of Connelly Springs, Jane Shoemaker and husband, Doug of Sherrills Ford, Elizabeth Bach and husband, Aubrey of Sherrills Ford; sister, Colleen Hawn of Sherrills Ford; grandchildren, James Beach,Jr., James Shoemaker, Jr., Jeffrey Shoemaker, Jacob Bach, and Caleb Bach.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marcia Reighley and Rev. Russ Reighley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
