Curtis Dean White, 68, of Newton, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice of Newton. Born September 4, 1946 in Russell County, VA, he was the son of the late Paul Jaye White and Lola Buchanan White Elmore.
Curtis is a very proud U.S. army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He will be honored with military rites on Sunday by American Legion post 16. He retired from Weyerhaeuser after 30+ years of service. He enjoyed carp fishing and was an Alabama football and UNC basketball fan. Curtis loved his family, married on February 24, 1973 to his true love and best friend, Sharon Fox. His passion though was his granddaughter, Kaitlin. Some would say he spoiled her, Curtis would say I love her. Papaw, as Kaitlin called him shares wonderful memories of carp fishing at Drum Lake, going out to eat and just spending time together. Papaw bought Kaitlin her first car. Curtis was greatly loved and returned that love to his family and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas L. White and Paul White.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years, Sharon Fox White of the home, a son, Scottie D. White of Newton; three brothers, David White and wife, Betty of Shelby, Ernest White and wife, Karen of Claremont and Marion White and wife, Judy of Conover; three sisters, Marie Setzer and husband, Larry of Hickory, Gracie Jones and husband, Bob of Maiden, Wilma Don Juan and husband, Marcus of Conover; a grandchild, Kaitlin White of Newton; and his special niece and caregiver, Stephanie Caldwell.
