

Dewel Geurin Sigmon, age 83 of Conover, NC, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at his residence. Born November 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Raymond Dacosta Sigmon and Mayme Gladys Deal Sigmon. Dewel was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover and was an upholsterer with Hickory Chair Company for 45 years. He was an avid gardener, UNC Tarheel basketball fan, and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Dewel was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Louise Isenhour Sigmon; granddaughter, Jennifer Erin Sigmon.
Survivors include his daughters, Kimberly Pennington and husband, Randall, of Hickory, Shannon Cline and husband, Bob, of Hickory; sons, David Sigmon and wife, Paula, of Conover, Mark Sigmon and wife, Melanie, of Hickory; step-daughter, Ann Marie Davis of Conover; brothers, Wayne Sigmon of Conover, Eddie Sigmon and wife, Boncella, of Conover, Keith Sigmon and wife, Cheryl, of Conover; six grandchildren; and twenty four great grandchildren.
His family wishes to express a special thanks to Rachel Sigmon for the care she gave her grandfather in the last months of his life.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 with Rev. Paul Birner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors presented by American Legion Post #48.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
