Dorothy “Dot” Lucille Deal Killian, age 82 of Claremont, passed away Thursday June 15, 2017 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. She was born October 20, 1934 in Catawba County. She was the daughter of the late William L. Deal and Lizzie Smith Deal.
Dot was a woman who loved her kids and grandkids. She was fond of having the grandkids over for weeks at a time. Grandkids remember picking vegetables in the garden and then walking through the neighborhood while listening to Grandma tell stories.
Dot was known as a great cook. Some of her specialties were chicken and dumplings and poundcake. They were big hit among family and friends.
Sewing is another hobby Dot took to heart. She was fond of making patched quilts and clothing for grandbabies.
She had a knack for turning what looked like junk or scrap into something useful. She loved to work with her hands and let her creativity create things she'd give to her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Mark Killian and wife, Lena of Claremont, Danny Killian and wife, Lori of Claremont; brother, Troy Deal of Hickory; sister, Virgie Punch of Hickory; grandchildren, Amber Hendren and husband, Justin of Catawba, Brandon Killian, Heather Gemmell and Christopher Gemmell; great-grandchildren, Cole Hendren, Emalee Cole, Sean Baker, Carli Goble and Emmit Gemmell.
A celebration of life will be held on June 19, 2017, from 1:00 pm to 2:00pm at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. A gravesite committal service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hickory.
