

Mr. E. Hampton Schell passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton following a period of declining health. He was born May 2, 1926 in Conover to the late Alvin Osbourne Schell and Essie Mae Rowe Schell.
Mr. Schell graduated from Newton-Conover High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill receiving a Business Administration Degree from Clevenger Business College. He was a former president of Newton-Conover Jaycees, secretary of the former Newton Moose Lodge, and was a deacon of the church. He was also active in various civic activities in the community.
Mr. Schell retired from Schneider Mills in Taylorsville after serving 38 years as Controller. He was a life time member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Cline Schell; brothers, William R. Schell, and John Schell; sisters, Marjorie Rowe Schell and Mary Lillian Schell; step-sons, Aaron G. Steelmon and Timothy W. Steelmon.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Ruth Lane Steelmon Schell of the home; son, Stanley A. Schell living in Missouri; grandson, Stanley A. Schell Jr. of Maiden; brothers, Joe H. Schell and wife, Louise H. Schell, of Conover, Jerry Schell and wife, Leona, of Lenoir; sister, Sue Schell Jessup of Hickory; and three great-granddaughters; a number of nieces and nephews; step-son, A. Randall Steelmon of Cary, NC; four step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Rev. Lonny McSherley and Rev. Peggy Stout officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.
