

He was born July 9, 1930 in Catawba County to the late Owen Lee Setzer and Clara Caroline Settlemyre Setzer. Hugh was a lifelong member of Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newton. He served for two years in the Army where he fought in the Korean War. Later in life, Hugh retired from Anchor Supply and Cregger Company after 50 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Carol M. Setzer.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Pauline Snyder Setzer; sons, Terrell H. Setzer and wife, Susan P. of Hickory and Todd P. Setzer and wife, Susan L. of Newton; daughter, Beth Poarch of Hickory; sisters, Nancy Miller and husband, Russ of Columbus, OH and Gwen Crosby and husband, Adrian of Harmony; brother, Owen Ray Setzer and wife, Jean of Cornelius; grandchildren, Cole and Hayley Setzer, Carrie and Luke Setzer, Carrie Starnes, Lindsey Lail; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Lail, Lukas, Liam and Logan Starnes.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newton with Rev. Robert Sain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
Pallbearers will be Friends and Family.
