Katherine Harris Lambert, age 93, of Conover, died on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Catawba Valley Hospice House in Newton. She was born on August 16, 1922, in Iredell County, NC, to Lola Arlington Harris and Eva Jane Lackey Harris.
Katherine married Otto Lambert in 1948, and they moved to Conover where Otto ran a garage for many years. Katherine worked very hard as the bookkeeper for Lambert’s Garage, the homemaker, and the mother of their two daughters, Carol and Kathy.
The family became charter members of First United Methodist Church in Conover where she enjoyed working with the children’s programs and being part of the Methodist women. These activities were curtailed when she suffered a stroke at the age of 38.
Throughout her life, she was dedicated to learning and cherished her book collection. Later in life, she took up painting although she had been very artistic all of her life. She treasured a good cup of coffee every morning and in her 90’s proclaimed it worth the waking up for.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Carol Warren (Eddie) of Newton and Kathy Lambert-Scronce (Clifton) of Greensboro; her two granddaughters, Leah Warren Paige (Doug) of Charlottesville, VA, and Rachel L. Crawford (Elizabeth) of Greensboro; and two great granddaughters, Zoe and Halle Paige. She is also survived by one brother, Rev. Bob Harris, and one sister, Shirley Moore, both of Hiddenite.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, and three brothers, Fred, James (Bud), and Rev. Tom Harris.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Conover.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:45 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church: Columbarium Fund, P.O. Box 235, Conover, NC 28613.
“O ye beneath life’s crushing load/ Whose forms are bending low/ Who toil along the climbing way/With painful steps and slow/Look now for glad and golden hours/Come swiftly on the wing/Oh rest beside the weary road/ And hear the angels sing.”
