Kenneth Bruce Chastain

Kenneth “Ken” Bruce Chastain, age 87, of Conover, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Trinity Village in Hickory. Born July 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Julian Charles Chastain and Louise Crews Chastain.

In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by brothers, Ara Lee Chastain, Charles Chastain; sisters, Collen Kanipe, and Shirley Deal.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Pauline Rockett Chastain; step-son, Glenn Nick Matthews of Conover; step-daughter, Sandra K. Price of Hickory; sister, Joanne Fox of Hickory; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and he belonged to the VFW. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont and volunteered to usher many Sundays. Pauline and Ken did a lot of traveling and enjoyed seeing new places together. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont with Pastor Mike Ramey and Pastor Eric Holler officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Rd, Claremont, NC 28610.
