Kenneth was born March 15, 1936 to the late Leroy Shook and Edna Hedrick Shook of Catawba County. He worked for 37 years for the city of Newton, and though he held many positions, his favorite was mechanical work. Bo was very talented and there was nothing that he could not fix. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed crafting jewelry, hunting, and spending time with his dog, Rusty. Bo was blessed with many gifts, and his art of jewelry making was shared with many around the world. Friends shared their support with a thumbs-up, wearing a ring made from a stainless steel nut. Bo was a great role model to many, teaching others to respect nature and to love the outdoors. Many felt that Bo was their second father. Later in life he went from hunting wildlife to feeding and nurturing animals. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Bo loved his family and he enjoyed life and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Marshall Shook, and Harvey Shook; and sisters, Mary Moss, Edith Bandy and his loyal companion Rusty.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Shook; sons, Kenneth Lee Shook and wife, Pamela, of Claremont, and Jeffery Shook and wife, Teresa, of Claremont; daughter, Julie Smith and husband, David, of North Andover, Massachusetts; brothers, Garland Shook, Wade Shook, and Everett Shook, all of Claremont; grandson, Kyle Lee Shook, and wife, Deanna; step grandsons, Craig and Matthew Smith; step grandchildren, Cody and Shelbie Huffman; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church. Reverend Eric Hollar will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice Foundation: 2975 Robinson Road, Newton, North Carolina 28658.
