Lisa Carol Matthews

Lisa Carol Matthews of Catawba, NC, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2024 surrounded by her family. The cause was cancer, which she had endured a number of years with her characteristic bravery and strength.

Lisa was born on September 10, 1960 and spent her life with her family in Catawba. Lisa exemplified the very meaning of Christian service as she spent her whole life caring for others. Lisa lived her faith as a Registered Nurse for 42 years and helped bring God’s children into the world as a labor and delivery nurse for the majority of her career at Catawba Memorial and Glen R. Frye hospitals. She also knew no bounds when it came to taking care of her beloved mother, father, nephew, and her life long companion.

Lisa spent her life as a dedicated and active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba where she sang her heart’s love for God in the choir with her mother. She was a very loving and generous person, and genuine to the core. She loved to garden, fish, hunt, and care for animals. Her favorite place to be was at the beach with loved ones. Lisa was kind, loving and generous beyond measure. She was a strong, dependable, thoughtful person who suffered her life’s challenges with determination.

Lisa Carol Matthews is survived by her mother, Avis L. Matthews of Catawba, nephew Duane Matthews, and lifelong companion Ann Steele.

The family is grateful, as was Lisa, for the expert and compassionate medical care that she received from her host of doctors in Catawba County, Charlotte, and Winston-Salem.

A Visitation/Receiving will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 2 pm with a Celebration of life at 3 pm. Reverend Michael Daniels of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate.
