

Born August 21, 1923 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Thomas Leander and Ella Moose Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a member of Hudson Chapel Baptist Church of Catawba. Oscar was a man of great passion and love, being raised during the depression era he understood hard work. Oscar always had a giving heart to those in need. Oscar loved people and never met a stranger, but his greatest passion was his family. Oscar was blessed with the “most beautiful lady that he ever met” and spent a wonderful 65 inseparable years together. Oscar and Frances started courting on a bicycle and he would ride over 17 miles to see his beloved Frances. Oscar still has that bicycle today and cherished the wonderful times he had on his bike. He was blessed with 4 wonderful daughters that surrounded him with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Oscar enjoyed gardening with a push plow and did so by the signs of the moon which was a family tradition. Planting year round he loved sharing the fruits of his garden. God blessed Oscar with the ability to garden even at age 91. Oscar and his family loved the Outer banks, spending time there and fishing brought him so much happiness. Oscar loved to hunt and would build and set rabbit gums like no other. At 17 while his brother was being drafted he felt the need to give to his country as well. He enlisted in a CCC camp in Modena, Utah to help support his family financially; he also worked in a shipyard in Baltimore, Md. Oscar retired after 40 years of work with Clyde Fabrics in Newton, NC. Oscar has left his family with a wonderful heritage and beautiful memories and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances Pope Stewart; brothers, Fred, Alvin, John and Paul Stewart; sisters, Mary Pauline Stewart, Margaret Hooks and Marjorie Jean Landaeta.
Left to cherish his life and memories are his daughters Ruby Clawson and husband Willard of Newton, Jewell Mabery and husband Sam of Newton, Joyce Davis and husband Ronny of Catawba, Barbara Deal and husband David of Catawba; grandchildren Fran Ballengee and husband Aaron, Amy Mabery, Sam Mabery and wife Laurel, Jessica Parsons and husband Randy, David Deal and wife Pye, Jennifer Isenhour and husband, Jamie, and Ronny Davis Jr; and
six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Ada Morrison and Dolly Hedrick of Statesville, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on 3pm Friday, January 30, 2015 at Hudson Chapel Baptist Church, Catawba, NC. Dr. Frank Bentley will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Pallbearers serving the family will be Jamie Isenhour, Randy Parsons, Sam Mabery, Gary James Sr., Brad Clements, Anthony Haskett, David Deal, and Gary James Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hudson Chapel Baptist Church, PO Box 6, Catawba, NC 28609.x great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Ada Morrison and Dolly Hedrick of Statesville, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews. Newton, NC. Oscar has left his family with a wonderful heritage and beautiful memories and will be greatly missed.
