

Pauline “Polly” Martin Cloninger of Claremont, NC, age 88, passed into eternal life on February 9, 2016 at 4:50 p.m. Born April 30, 1927 in Cherryville, NC, Polly was the daughter of the late Walter Guy and Lola Lingerfelt Martin.
She married W. Glenn Cloninger, Sr., in December 1945 and cherished every moment with him for 66 years.
Polly was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who dearly loved her Lord Jesus Christ, her family, church family, and friends. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont and served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the WELCA and head office in her church groups. Polly worked at Knitmode Mills in Newton, NC for 10 years then spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Glenn Cloninger, Sr.; her brothers, Robert, Elmer, J.B., Ervin, Ray and Clyde Martin all of Hickory, NC; and her sisters, Mrs. Inez Johnson of Hickory, Mrs. Margaret Throgmorton and Mrs. Dottie Stevens both of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
Polly is survived by her son, Glenn Cloninger, Jr. and wife, Jean of Catawba; son, Jeff Cloninger and fiancée, Lisa Hefner of Ashe County.
Surviving grandchildren are the Reverend Jerome Cloninger and wife, Kimberly of China Grove, NC, Tiffany Caudill and husband, Scott of Conover, Hannah Wetherill and husband, Mark of Johnson City, TN, and Andrea Abshire and husband, Matthew of Atlanta, GA.
Great-grandsons include Jeremiah and Ezekiel Cloninger of China Grove, Quentin Caudill of Conover, and Jack Wetherill of Johnson City, TN. Great-granddaughters are Beth Yost and husband, Brent, Aimee and Ella Cloninger of China Grove.
Lastly she is survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda Martin, married to the late Ray Martin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at St. Mark's Lutheran Church from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on February 12, 2016 with services to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Reverand Gary Haddock, Reverend William Hollar and the Reverand Paul Christ will officiate along with comments from the Reverend Jerome Cloninger.
Burial services will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
