Ruth Irene Thrasher Smith, age 74, of Granite Falls, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born January 27,1947 in Augusta, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Nowell Anderson Thrasher and Mary Ruth Ransom Thrasher.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Farrell Smith, and brother, William Thrasher.
Ruth retired as a substance abuse counselor for the State of North Carolina. She enjoyed crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Gardner-Webb University.
She is survived by children, Shawn Smith, Dawn Smith, and Mia Smith; stepchild, JoElla Johnson; brother, Jimmy Thrasher of Arkansas; grandchildren, Lauren Smith and Everette Smith, and fur-grandbabies, Lula and Paige.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover on Friday, July 16, 2021. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
