Sandra Hass Miller, age 72, of Claremont, NC, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton after a courageous three month battle with cancer. Born October 10, 1942, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Ivey Lee Hass and Emma Regina Abernethy Hass.
Sandra was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Claremont where she had been involved in many roles and with numerous committees and boards including the Hands at Work Ministry, Communion Steward, special meals coordinator, The Corner Table coordinator, hand bell choir, Walk to Emmaus participant and volunteer, former Sunday School Teacher and church treasurer. During her career, Sandra had worked for Broyhill Furniture, Pinnacle Furniture, Southern Furniture and the City of Claremont, from which she had retired after over 20 years of service. After her retirement, she worked for Drum and Willis-Reynolds Funeral Homes for over 14 years, where her care and compassion for others was evident.
Sandra enjoyed volunteering her time at the church and spending time with friends and schoolmates, but her greatest joy was cooking for and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Corpening and Ramona Reed.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Terry Miller, of the home; sons, Gary Adair and wife, Anita, of Taylorsville, Dayne Miller and wife, Terri, of Claremont; daughters, Shelly Miller of Claremont, Keri Hendershot and husband, Eddie, of Claremont; grandchildren, Alan Fisher and wife, Melissa, Angela Adair, Aleshia Adair, Joshua Miller, Abby Miller, Courtney Hendershot, Lucas Hendershot, and Isaiah Hendershot; great-grandchildren, Jacob Fisher, Drew Fisher, and Ryan Presnell; brother, Kenneth Hass and wife, Janice, of Hickory; sister, Jan Houser and husband, Michael, of Newton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Rev. Dennis Marshall and Rev. Wayne Earley will officiate and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the fellowship hall of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be her sons and son-in-law, Gary Adair, Dayne Miller, and Eddie Hendershot; grandsons, Alan Fisher and Joshua Miller; and representing her nephews, Terry Corpening. Honorary pallbearers will be her schoolmates and the staff of Drum & Willis-Reynolds Funeral Homes.
