Shirley Dean Lessnau

Shirley Dean Sigmon Lessnau, age 81, of Hickory, NC, and formerly of Arizona, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born May 17, 1936 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Ivey Glenn Sigmon and Mary Beatrice Sherrill Sigmon.

Shirley was a member of Catawba United Methodist Church in Catawba, NC. She was a former employee of Hunt Mfg. in Statesville, NC, and had retired from K-Mart. Shirley enjoyed stock car racing and loved playing and competing in shuffleboard and was inducted into the Tucson (AZ) Shuffleboard Hall of Fame.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lessnau, three sisters, Peggy S. Brown, Mary Glenn S. Shepherd, and Nancy S. Haivala, and one brother, Bobby Sigmon.

Survivors include her two sisters, Phyllis S. Lail of Claremont, NC, and Brenda S. Fulcher of Hickory, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Catawba United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Shytle officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:15 to 2:45 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.
