In his senior year of high school, after taking the S.A.T., he scored fifth in the nation. He graduated from Olive High School in Morganton, NC, as Valedictorian of his class, with a four-year full scholarship to Union College of Engineering in Schenectady, NY. Just before he was scheduled to leave for college, he enlisted in the Air Force. “His mom was devastated.”
After serving 4 yrs. In the Air Force, and receiving an honorable discharge, he stayed in Kansas City, Kansas for several years.
He returned to Morganton, but eventually moved to Catawba County and enrolled in CVCC, receiving a degree in Computer Technology. When asked what he would do with his degree he replied, ”Ah! I’m just gonna hang it on the wall.”
Being dissatisfied with working a conventional job, he decided to become a tile contractor. He laid tile and worked out of his truck for a number of years. Therefore, in 1997, Wallace opened Hickory’s first 3000 s/f Tile Showroom… “Wallace Fox Tile Superstore”. In 2003, he became tired and sold the business, but still did side jobs.
Wallace was also an avid golfer. After he sold his business, one of his former clients said that he went to the golf course every week, never on the same day, but every time he went, he saw Wallace.
As a young man, he loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and he built a ramp so he could put his Harley in his living room. Wallace stopped riding in his mid-forties, and did not start riding again until his late 50’s. Then he went to Hog Heaven, and bought a Harley Davidson Special Edition.
Wallace came into the Freedom Biker Church of Hickory family in late April 2010. Dano from Freedom Biker Church of Monroe had the pleasure of sharing the Gospel message with Wallace at the Maggie Alley Spring Rally. Wallace responded to the message by giving his life to the Lord right there in the middle of the bike rally. When Dano realized that Wallace lived close to Hickory, he introduced him to Preacher Greg. Wallace has been a loyal and loved member of the Biker Church family ever since. He was baptized on June 13, 2010, making him the first new believer to be baptized at Freedom in Hickory.
Wallace had always dreamed of going to Sturgis, SD. So, in August 2012 he and a friend from church rode their motorcycles 1700 miles to the biggest motorcycle rally in the US.
Wallace always rode to church, rain or shine. He had been attending at Freedom for more than a year before anyone even knew that he had a vehicle besides his bike. Wallace was kind and gentle, a man of few words, and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed, but we are glad to know that we will meet him again around the throne of God.
From his mom: “My dear son, you can rest now. My life will never be the same without you. I love you,” –Mama
