Wayne Elbert Bumgarner

Born September 19, 1938 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carroll Merlin and Ola Killian Bumgarner. Mr. Bumgarner had a passion for motorcycles, enjoyed buying lottery tickets and showing pictures of his family. He loved his family and never met a stranger. Mr. Bumgarner was a member of Oxford Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons Carroll Merlin Bumgarner and Wayne Elbert Bumgarner, II; and a sister, Sandra Gayle Bumgarner.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Downs Bumgarner of the home; son Edward A. Bumgarner and wife Kelly of Crowley, TX; daughters Sharrie Petree Deal and husband Mike of Hickory, Debra Bumgarner Stillwell of Conover, and Cheryl Bumgarner Haynes of Newton; sisters Linda Bumgarner Sigmon of Hickory and Sue Bumgarner Johnson of Hickory; 12 grandchildren, Jesse Haynes, Heather Haynes, Kristy Chapman, Steven Carrillo, Lacey Bumgarner, Kalista Stacey, David Bumgarner, Daniel Bumgarner, Edward Bumgarner, Stepanie Bumgarner, Joey Petree, Justin Petree, and 18 great grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Conover. Rev. Joel Frye will officiate and burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
