Abel was born on April 13, 1926 in San Isidro, Texas. He was the first of four boys born to Andres and Guadalupe Guerra. He grew up on the family farm and moved to Corpus Christi when he was 16 years old. Serving in the US Army during World War II, he returned home to finish high school and graduated from Miller High School in 1947. After graduating from Texas A&I University in Kingsville he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Fischer in 1950. They lived in Corpus Christi and raised three wonderful children.
He was employed as a teacher by CCISD for 35 years. He was very active at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corpus Christi and served there as a CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister. He also was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul for 58 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. In 2015 he and Margaret moved to Conroe, Texas and joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a devoted servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ and was known for his kindness, his faithfulness and his generosity.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Margaret Guerra, of Conroe, Texas, his children, Irene Elliff, of Magnolia, Texas and Lizzie Henderson of Garland, Texas, grandchildren, Lisa Barnes of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Stephen Elliff of Kyoto, Japan, Brent Elliff of Denver, Colorado, Lindsey Elliff of Pueblo, Colorado, and Tyler Henderson of Garland, Texas, great-grandchildren, Taylor Barnes, Collin Barnes (Savannah), Matthew Barnes, Rebekah Barnes, Allycen Barnes and one great-great-grandson Keagan Barnes, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

A funeral mass for Abel will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 beginning at 1:30 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, TX 77301. Following the funeral mass will be a graveside service in Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, TX 77303.
