Addie Nadine Fix passed away at home Sunday January 15th with family at her side after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Nadine was born on November 28, 1952 in Floresville Texas to Milton and Doris Nutt. She grew up with four sisters and five brothers. After being baptized at age 12 at the Mayfield Park Baptist Church in San Antonio she, as a teenager, helped care for her mother and younger siblings so her father could work. Nadine attended Pasadena High School and developed a career that took her from various executive assistant positions to a Human Resources representative for Equitable of Iowa Companies before she “retired” to focus on homemaking and volunteer work. She and Tom Fix were joined in marriage on March 9, 1990 in Des Moines, Iowa and subsequently lived in St. Louis Missouri and Burbank California before retiring to Montgomery and Conroe Texas in 2008. In addition to many other volunteer activities over the years, Nadine was involved with the Two Rivers Festival in Des Moines, was on the Board of Directors of Young Audiences of St. Louis, and received a Volunteer of the Year Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Since early in life, Nadine has been a role model of generosity, responsibility, compassion, class, and great grace. Her greatest happiness came from her focus on everyone else’s well being, happiness, and comfort. She leaves a legacy of love for all and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband Tom, step-daughters Angie (Jossue) Ortiz and grandchildren Enzo and Claire of Ft. Worth TX and Julie (Ed) Golding of Plano TX, brothers Lyle Nutt (Cleone) of Merritt Island FL, James Nutt (Bonnie) of New Braunfels TX, David Nutt (Glenda) of Conroe TX, and Allee Nutt (Kristie) of Anson TX, sisters Judy Franklin of Deer Park TX, Lynne Russell of Baytown TX, and Raynelle McGee (Johnny) of Hitchcock TX. She is preceded in death by brother, Mark and sister, Elizabeth. Nadine also leaves behind (for now) many much loved cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other family members, and friends. Visitation for Nadine will be Friday January 20th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home located at 801 Teas Road, Conroe TX, 77303 (936) 756-2126. (A private viewing for family will be held from 4:00-5:00 p.m.)
Nadine’s funeral service will be Saturday January 21st at 4:00 p.m. at West Conroe Baptist Church located at 1855 Longmire Road, Conroe TX 77304 (936) 760-1911. A gathering and meal will be held at Tom and Nadine’s home immediately following the service. Cashner Funeral Home’s website (www.cashnerconroe.com) has information and also provides the opportunity to leave messages for the family. The family would like to recognize home hospice caregivers Lauren Scott Canady (RN) and Chameica Streeter (CNA) for the compassionate, caring, gentle, respectful, and professional care they provided Nadine. They truly are angels on earth.
