Annie Fay Keilers Laas, 90, of Panorama Village passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday, August 22, 2025. She had survived a massive stroke in 2014, and suffered a second, smaller stroke a few weeks before her death.
Annie was born February 3, 1935, in Woodsboro, Refugio County, Texas, to Edwin Henry Keilers and Norma May Korff. As a young girl, Annie moved with her family from Refugio County to Round Top, Texas, where she graduated salutatorian from Round Top-Carmine High School in 1953. She attended nursing school in Temple, Texas, and completed her training there at Scott & White Hospital. Annie began her career as a public health nurse, taking care of isolated and indigent people who sometimes included patients with leprosy. She eventually became a Registered Nurse and worked in orthopedics at the Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center until her retirement in 1993.
Annie Fay Keilers and Everett Alan Laas were both established in their careers by the time they married in Houston on November 28, 1968. The couple soon started their family with the birth of their son, Alan Glen Laas, in 1971, followed by their son, Eric Drew Laas, in 1974. Annie and Everett raised their sons with Christian values, and saw to it that they either played sports (Alan) or participated in the Boys Scouts (Eric, who became an Eagle Scout). With Annie’s assistance, Everett built a second story on the home to provide a safe place for the boys to entertain their friends. It was also one of the few households in the neighborhood to provide a state-of-the-art computer for the young people to freely use and enjoy. Annie’s mother in her later years had come to live with Annie and Everett and became popular with her grandsons’ friends when she made fresh homemade bread for them after school.
During the boys’ teenage years, the family enjoyed traveling to timeshares in various
states. One particular visit to a local timeshare on Lake Conroe resulted in Annie and Everett learning about Panorama Village where they eventually moved upon retirement.
Annie became an enthusiastic golfer who played with the Niners group at Panorama and who enjoyed visiting other clubs for interclub tournaments. Annie wasn’t a long hitter, but she was accurate and had a keen eye for putting which contributed to her enjoyment of the game. She served as president of the Niners group in 2008. Although she was a working mother, Annie found time to support Everett in his many endeavors, including his second career as a highschool teacher (following his time as a mechanical engineer), his fraternal and charitable work with the Masons and Shriners, and later on with the Panorama Lions Club.
Annie was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Everett in 2021 and their son Alan in 2022. She is survived by her son Eric and wife Kristi Miller Laas of Austin, daughter-in-law Lisa Schmitt Laas, and cherished granddaughter Kei Chloe Alana Laas of Panorama Village. Also surviving are Annie’s brother Charles Keilers of San Angelo, sister Joyce Keilers Taylor of Cut and Shoot, and nephews and nieces Dr. Charles Keilers, Jr., Dr. Laura Burleson, Ginny Murphy, Randall Patterson, Dan Laas, Don Laas, Sandi Brickley and Sharlyn Laas, and beloved friend Mike Ray and wife Kelly of Bradenton Florida, among many other family members and friends.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Jocelyn, Andrea, and all the staff at Hospice 365 for the care and love they gave Annie and the family during her final days.
Visitation will be at Metcalf Funeral Directors in Conroe, Texas on Friday, September 5th, 5-7pm. A graveside service will be held at the Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville, Texas on Saturday, September 6th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Montgomery County or to the charity of your choice.
