

Arthur E. “Gene” Baker was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on July 29, 1930, and went to his heavenly home on September 27, 2017, at the age of 87. Gene served his country from 1951-1953, in the US Air Force. He graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with a degree in accounting in 1957. Following graduation, Gene began what would be a thirty year career at Marathon Oil Company, serving in various accounting and management assignments in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Houston Texas. During his retirement years, Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and serving at his church. He loved gardening and raising cattle on his acreage near Coldspring, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas since 1972. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur L. and Gladys Denny Baker and by his brother, Bobby Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy Baker; children, Terry Simmons and husband Dr. Mark Simmons of Nacogdoches, Texas, Kenneth Baker and wife Connie of The Woodlands, Texas, Dr. James “Jim” Baker and wife Deedra of San Antonio, Texas and Jana Jones and husband Timothy of Oakridge North, Texas; grandchildren, John Simmons, Katherine Simmons, Hunter Heseman and wife Sydney, Kristin Baker, Eva Baker and Jackson Baker; brothers, Clebern Baker and wife Maebelle of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Edward Baker and wife Connie of Nicut, Oklahoma. Visitation will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 5-7pm. The funeral service will be in the Cashner Colonial Chapel on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 10am with Pastor Edward Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be: John Simmons, Hunter Heseman, Jackson Baker, Joey Baker, Alan Baker, Kendall Baker, Daniel Sample and Randall Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jonathan Brandon, Jonathan Duncan, Jesse Taylor and the deacons of the First Baptist Church Conroe.
