Beverly Karlene (McLaury) Schard, loving wife, mother, mamaw, grammy and grandma, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Sundale Senior Living of The Woodlands, Texas. Beverly (“Bev”) was born on June 18, 1934, in Jackson, Michigan to Carl and Vera (Taylor) McLaury. She spent much of her childhood in Tecumseh, Michigan where she graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1952. Bev then trained to become a registered nurse at E.W. Sparrow School of Nursing in Lansing, Michigan. Bev had a servant’s heart and worked as a nurse and volunteer throughout her life.
While studying nursing, Bev met her husband, Malcolm (“Mac”) Schard, a student at Michigan State University. Bev and Mac married on June 9, 1956. After stints in Pittsburgh, PA and Bethesda, Maryland, Bev and Mac settled in Long Valley, New Jersey with their four children. Bev continued to work as a nurse and in various positions in the Washington Township Schools; Bev also served as PTA President, was a cub scout den mother, booster club parent, and an avid reader, cook and seamstress. For two weeks every summer, Bev and Mac took their family tent camping where they explored locations up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida.
In 1978, Bev and Mac transferred to Spring, Texas where Bev was a school nurse at Klein Forest and then at Klein High School, until she retired in 1996. In 1991, Bev and Mac moved to Walden in Conroe, Texas, where they lived on the lake and enjoyed boating and hosting get-togethers with family and friends.
Bev and Mac were members of April Sound Church for over 30 years with Bev serving several terms as a board member with the Helping Hands ministry. Bev was passionate about helping those in need and was instrumental in raising funds to provide bicycles to less fortunate children at Christmas. She was very proud that one year they raised enough funds to provide over 75 bicycles to children in Montgomery County. Bev also volunteered with the Montgomery County Community Assistance Center and Conroe Hospital. In 2021, Bev and Mac were recognized with the Distinguished Service Award at the Montgomery County Community Assistance Center Legacy Awards Luncheon.
In their retirement, Bev and Mac traveled throughout the United States in their RV. They spent summers traveling to every state in the U.S. and particularly enjoyed their time in Estes Park, Colorado, Lake Placid, New York, and caravaning through Alaska and Canada. Bev and Mac also traveled to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South America, and enjoyed cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal. They also treasured their trips with their special friends Dick and Nancy Poole, who they considered their “lake” family.
Beverly’s greatest joy was her family, all of whom will miss her dearly. Bev is survived by her husband of 69 years, Malcolm; her sons, Jeffrey (Camella) Schard of Houston, Texas, David (Rochelle) Schard of Cypress, Texas, and Bradley (Madora) Schard of The Woodlands; and, her daughter Debbie Crafton of Flower Mound, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bryan (Amanda) Schard, Danny (Caitlin) Schard, Scott
