It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Byron Henry Lee, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, true legend, and dear friend to so many. Byron departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering spirit.
At age 75 Byron passed away February 1, 2026 in Montgomery, Texas. He was born on October 8, 1950 in Pasadena, Texas to Billie Jean and Sam Henry Lee.
Byron was an active young man from the start. He was a proud brother to Landa and Rose, never missing a chance to tease them—always with love, laughter, and a big grin. He excelled on the football and baseball fields, embraced the challenge of the rodeo arena, and even joined the FFA. Initially, Byron—true to his charming sense of humor—thought FFA might be a good way to “meet chicks,” only to discover it was, in fact, all about chickens. Nevertheless, he embraced the experience, showing steers and proudly serving as an officer, demonstrating his early leadership and commitment.
In 1970 he met the love of his life and his “true cowgirl”, Laura Sue Helton. They married in 1971, beginning a remarkable love story that spanned 55 years and countless adventures filled with love, laughter and shared passions.
In 1973, Byron answered his true calling by joining the Houston Fire Department. He retired Captain after 36 years of distinguished service. He truly loved his career so much that he was often heard saying, “He never worked a day in his life.” Along the way he also opened his own Insurance Agency where he enjoyed interacting with many.
Byron’s proudest accomplishment was the family that he and Laura created. They were blessed with their first son Sam Edward Lee in 1973 followed by Scott Randall Lee in 1977.
He was a cherished “Uncle Byron” to many nieces and nephews whom he supported and guided as a trusted father figure.
Byron will especially be remembered by his ranching experience and cattle knowledge. True to his generous nature, Byron continually gave back to his community by sponsoring youth and donating steers to help young people pursue their dreams. He also treasured trips to Nebraska with his best friends, countless hunting trips with his son Scott, his grandsons and many dear friends creating memories filled with tradition, laughter and lifelong bonds.
In 2025, Byron and Laura moved to Montgomery to be closer to their family. Being near his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren brought Byron immense joy. Seeing his family every day filled his heart completely, and he was as happy as he could be—surrounded by the people he loved most.
Above all else, Byron’s greatest passion was his four grandchildren. He was their biggest fan—never absent from a game, competition, or event, no matter how big or small. When he wasn’t cheering from the stands, he was happily hosting family and friends, always opening his home and heart. His presence was constant, his support unwavering, and his love unmistakable.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sam Edward Lee and his niece Lauren Elizabeth Sparks.
Byron is survived by his beloved wife Laura; his son Scott and daughter in law, Kim Lee. His four cherished grandchildren, Sam Edward , Davis Randall, Shelby Scott, and Logan Katherine; his sister Landa Shaw and husband Jim; sister, Rose Sparks; his nieces and nephews and a wide circle of family and friends whose lives are better because he was part of them.
Byron is a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and trusted in God’s promises.
