

Dale Edwin Evans of Panorama Village passed away May 20, 2014, at the age of 89. He was born April 29, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Charles W. and Hazel F. Evans. In 1943, Dale enlisted in the Naval Aviation Officer Training Program and earned the rank of Lieutenant JG after serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated in 1948 from the University of South Carolina College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, Westinghouse Elevator, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offered Dale employment. While training in Pittsburgh, he met Jean Marjorie Froelich and married her in 1950. After a 37-year career with Westinghouse Elevator, Dale retired as the company’s National Sales Manager in 1985. He relocated to Panorama Village in 1986, where he owned a home with his wife Jean for 28 years. Dale often stated that aside from his decision to enlist in the Navy, moving to Panorama had been the best decision he had ever made. Dale was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well as, a dedicated statesman, parishioner and public servant. First elected a councilman in 1994, Dale served on the City of Panorama Village City Council for 16 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe and the Panorama Lions Club. Dale is preceded in death by parents, Charles W. and Hazel F. Evans; brother, Charles R. Evans; and sister, Rosemary McMillian. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean F. Evans; daughter, Judith A. Evans; son, Robert D. Evans and wife, Joan; brother, Wayne Evans and wife, Lorene; grandchildren, Amy M. Evans and Amanda M. Keesee; and, great grandchildren, Michael J. Gibson, David A. Gibson and Briana S. Gibson. After the VFW 21-Gun Salute and the presentation of the flag, a Graveside Service officiated by Reverend Mary Tumulty was held Friday, May 23, 2014, in the Garden Park Cemetery. After the service, family and friends gathered for a reception held at the First United Methodist Church of Conroe. In lieu of flowers, the Evans family requested contributions for diabetes research made to the Panorama Lions Club in remembrance of Dale.
