Dewayne Marvin Carpenter, of Conroe, Texas, age 97, died at 8:25 AM, Friday, June 25th, 2021, at his residence in Harmony Assisted Living under the care of Oasis Hospice. His son David was with him at the time of his death.

Dewayne is survived by three children, David (Ligia) Carpenter, 74, of Colorado, Duane (Nellie) Carpenter, 72, of Washington, and Dawn (Rick) Hare, 68, of Texas; two grandchildren, Branden Barnett of California, and Melissa (Gregory) Bannerot of Colorado; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Marilyn Johnson of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis (11/21/1925 - 3/22/2020), brothers: Leslie (Doris), Maynard (Norma), Claud Jr. (Jean), Ivan (Arden); and sister: Helen (Everett) Bunting.

Dewayne Carpenter, son of Claude Henry Carpenter, Sr & Florence (Leyrer) Carpenter, was born August 19, 1923, in Flint, MI, and grew up on the family farm on the corner of Carpenter and Jennings Roads. After graduating from Beecher High School, he worked for Buick Motor Div., on an assembly line before training to become a draftsman in the engineering department, retiring from Buick as a senior checker in 1979. Dewayne also served in the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Dewayne and Phyllis loved RV’ing, and exploring the U.S. from Alaska to Florida, Canada and Mexico for twenty years in their motorhomes before settling down in Conroe, TX in 1996.

Per his wishes he will be cremated and placed alongside his wife at the at the Houston National VA Cemetery in Houston, TX.

*Mom and dad are finally together again. Dewayne was more than an incredible son, husband, and father, he was also part of the greatest generation to ever have walked the earth.
