It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earl Rangel, on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the age of 90. His wife and children were blessed to have been by his side when he passed. Above all, he loved, enjoyed, and was proud of his whole family and their accomplishments. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his devoted wife Dolores, his children Helene, Joanna, Earl, and Roger, step-children Colleen and Gary, and all their spouses as well as 11 grandchildren and their spouses, and 13 great grandchildren.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War, with an honorable discharge in 1952.
Earl loved to golf, fish, and work. He would have worked up until the day he passed had his body allowed. There were a number of businesses he owned, one of which was a fruit stand that evolved into a successful produce and meat market. His last venture was a furniture and mattress store that he owned along with his partner Bill, where he worked until the age of 89. In his early years he bartended and developed a drink recipe that wound up winning an award. As a talented carpenter, he built enclosed patios on two of his homes in California and Texas.
He loved to tell stories of his past and we loved hearing them. His passion was meeting new people, and truly was an excellent salesman trying to sell products, whether it was meats, vegetables, or furniture, to everyone he met. After moving to Texas, he became an avid Astros and Texans fan. The Lotto was his dream of getting the pot at the end of the rainbow, and played every week.
He is going to be missed but not forgotten by all his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Directors with Pastor Ray Hyden officiating.
