
Elizabeth (Betty) Eileen Elliott Mannon Smith, 91, passed away Thursday, September 22nd at Ella Smither Geriatric Center in Huntsville. Texas. Born August 25, 1920 in Blue Rapids, Kansas she was the youngest of five children of Joseph Harry Elliott and Rebecca Alfreda Billingsley Elliott. After graduating from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1938 Betty attended one year of business school. She was married to Neal Mannon who preceded her in death. Later she was married to Walter Murray Smith, Houston, Texas from 1974 until his death in 2005. They met while working at Lummus Engineering. Betty devoted over 25 years to the hospital auxiliary of Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston, was a loyal member of BN chapter of P.E.O. and Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Houston until her move to Huntsville in 2004. There she joined First United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth is survived by stepchildren the Reverend Dr. Theodore M. Smith and wife, the Reverend Gail Ford Smith, Houston, Roxanne Smith Taylor and husband, the Reverend William R. Taylor, Longview, grandchildren the Reverend Dawson B. Taylor, Dallas, Katherine White Parker and husband, Lee, and great-granddaughter, Norah Lynn, Austin, the Reverend Collin B. Taylor and wife, Abigail Ramage Taylor, and great-granddaughter Riley Grace, Houston, Anna K. Taylor, Houston, and Margaret L. White, Dallas. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Her brothers Franklin, Roland, sister Helen, and brother Samuel all preceded her in death.
Elizabeth’s graveside family service will be held Friday, September 30th at 1:00 p.m. in Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, Oklahoma. The Reverends Gail Ford Smith and William R. Taylor will preside.
