Born in Odessa, Texas, Jackie was known from an early age for his grit and determination. He graduated in May of 1972 from Conroe High School and shortly after began a lifelong career in wastewater management. A man of tireless work ethic and passion for clean water, he remained dedicated to his profession until the day of his passing.
On June 8, 1972, Jackie married the love of his life, Barbara Elaine Chance. They shared fifty-two years of marriage, a testament to their shared devotion and "for better or worse" commitment. Following Elaine’s passing in November 2024, Jackie’s strong-willed spirit was anchored by his longing for the day him and Elaine would be reunited at Heaven’s gate.
Jackie lived his life as a servant-leader, embodying the biblical call to love one's neighbor. He was the man you called at 2:00 AM, knowing he would answer. Whether it was a neighbor with a broken pipe, a friend needing hard-earned advice, or a stranger who just needed the shirt off his back, Jackie was there. He never waited for an invitation to help; he simply saw a need and filled it.
His unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was the compass for every interaction. He didn't just meet people; he invested in them. He was the steady hand and the sure voice for anyone who found themselves in a storm. While he was a protector and provider for many, his heart belonged to his family. Whether he was hunting, sitting on his deck admiring the squirrels, or enjoying an NCIS marathon, Jackie was happiest when his home was full of the noise and laughter of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Jackie Chance Jr. and spouse Jacqueline Carter, Janet Franklin and spouse Dwayne, Michael Galan and spouse Traci Smith, and Cristina Chance. His legacy of faith and strength lives on in his grandchildren: Mark and spouse Paige, Kaytlynn, Zachary and spouse Pamela, Allison, Cheyenne, David, Aiden, Cierra, Alexander, Ashlynn, Aimee, Zachary, Jaseari, and Asher; and his great-grandchildren: Priscilla, Sophia, Claire, Camila, Eleanor, Amelia, Ryler, and Lucas. He also leaves behind a large community of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his steady guidance.
Jackie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine; his parents, Cecil and Irene Chance; and his grandparents.
A visitation will be held at Metcalf Funeral Directors, located at 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas, on January 28, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue, commencing at 2:00 pm.
