Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he traveled with his family during their many moves while his father served in the Coast Guard. Growing up in Puerto Rico he discovered his first love, surfing. He met many lifelong friends through the sport and even competed and was sponsored in his teens. After the family relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas Jason attended Flour Bluff, where he graduated in 1997. There he continued to surf and became an avid fisherman and enjoyed being on the water whenever possible, spending many hours with friends and family kayaking to find the best spots to catch fish. The water gave him a great sense of peace in his life, and he could often be found at the beach.
Jason was passionate about helping people and animals and had many stories of rescues of both during his travels. He eventually pursued a career as a paramedic so he could continue doing so. Many lives were impacted by his care and he undoubtedly helped save lives that would have otherwise been lost. He also helped to transport dogs for LabAdore Retriever Rescue and was known to help injured wildlife and strays whenever the need would arise.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Sara Bethany Lewis, whom he loved and mourned deeply. He is survived by his parents, David and Shirley Neal, his son, Ethan Neal, his sister Kristen Neal Barnett, brother-in-law Nathan Barnett and nephew Milo Barnett.
The family asks that donations be made to LabAdore Retrievers Rescue, Inc. in Jason’s memory to continue to support a cause he supported in life.
