

John Deal “JD” Kearns, born in Connellsville, PA. to Martin Joseph Kearns and Irene Agnes Deal. JD was the second youngest of six children. He moved to Houston, Texas after serving in the Army from 1946-1947. While he was stationed in Tyler, Texas for basic training, it was then he decided he wanted to live in Texas.
JD helped on the family farm in Pennsylvania which grew tomatoes for the Heinz Company. In addition, he also worked for his fathers’ service station. He was drafted after high school and after his discharge he moved home for a few years. He then moved to Texas where he worked in Joske’s warehouse and Zeiglers. Afterwards, in 1952 JD went to work for Lykes Steamship Company where he retired after 30 years of service. In 1989, JD and son Kenny Ray bought The Dutchman Tavern in Oak Forest area which they owned until 2015. In 1998 JD went to work for Accu-Test Labs where he started driving a truck making pick-ups and deliveries. He became the go to guy for anything you needed especially hard to find parts. He retired from Accu-Test Labs in 2011 but still was a large part of the Accu-Test family. During these times JD and wife Flo made and sold homemade candies for the holidays. This became a large in-home operation in which the whole family was called into action.
JD is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Irene Kearns, second wife Florence Jean Peebles Kearns, sons Kenneth Ray Kearns, and David Alan Peebles.
JD is survived by daughter Linda Pyndus, husband Bodie, Martin Kearns, Karen Kearns Waites, husband Kenneth, daughter Kathy Peebles Macri, husband Michael and daughter Debbie Peebles, daughter in law Judy Peebles; he is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary O. “Dolly” Ritz.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Stuart Pyndus, wife Diana; Kathryn Jane “KJ” Hurt, husband Eric; Colleen Fagoni, husband Joe; Martin John Kearns, wife Kimberly; Alan Peebles, wife Kayla; Matt Peebles, wife Jessica; Kristin Macri; Jacob Peebles.
Great grandchildren, Jackson Pyndus, Ryder Pyndus, Ballard Hurt, Schuyler Hurt, Joey Fagnoni, Gracie Fagnoni, Daniel Kearns, Charlie Kearns, Makenzie Davis, Kameryn Peebles, Dakotah Peebles, Madisyn Peebles and Aiden Macri.
A celebration of life memorial for John will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304.
