Jerry Douglas Phillips, 78, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 in Conroe, Texas. Jerry was born in Crossville, TN on February 13, 1945, the son of the late James Herschell and Bonnie Jett Phillips. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Carol Phillips, and siblings Pauline Edmonds, Harold Phillips, David Phillips, Thomas Phillips, Roy Phillips, and Herschel Phillips.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, son, and grandfather who was most affectionately known as “your most wonderful Grandy!” He had a larger-than-life personality and an even bigger laugh. Jerry was an affectionate person who loved his Lord, his family, and his country.
Jerry was a member of the Conroe Church of Christ. He loved football as a player in college and as a lifelong fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. Jerry was an avid golfer and loved the game for the sport and for the relationships he made. He enjoyed reading about many subjects, especially sports and history, and was blessed with opportunities to travel to many of the places he read about.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Martha Phillips and his children Heather Peters and husband, Jason; Becky Vander Vennen and husband, Manny; and Jeff Phillips and wife, Ginea. His thirteen grandchildren include Morgan Peters Wasson and husband, Michael, Austin Peters, Hannah Peters, Jake Vander Vennen, Emma Vander Vennen, Abby Vander Vennen, Gracie Phillips, Jackson Phillips, and Trenton Phillips. Jerry, one of nine children, is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Landis and Peggy Corsetti. His bonus family includes Ken and Paula Holsberry, Pam and Russell Messecar, Brent and Abby Holsberry, Jonathan and Holly Holsberry, Natalie Bobinger, and Molly Messecar, as well as two great-grandchildren and two on the way. Always the center of attention, may he rest in peace in the glory of God.
Visitation will be at 9 AM, Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Conroe Church of Christ, followed by the funeral service at 10 AM. The service will be conducted by his son, Jeff Phillips. A private interment will follow on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Houston National Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
