Joe was raised in Beaumont and graduated from French High School. He began his career at Gulf States Utilities as a draftsman and faithfully served for decades, ultimately retiring as a Senior Data Analyst from Entergy. His work ethic, loyalty, and attention to detail were hallmarks of his professional life.
Joe’s heart beat strongest for God, family, and the church. He loved classic cars and trucks, enjoyed golf and fishing, was an avid reader, and found peace in the mountains. He was a long-time fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Celtics, especially Larry Bird. He also enjoyed playing basketball himself, a hobby that stayed with him through the years.
He was a longtime member of The Fellowship Church in Texas City, where he joyfully served as a sound and media technician, prayer partner, and choir member—roles that reflected his servant’s heart and his desire to support and uplift others. For the past nine years, Joe was a member of Celebration Church in The Woodlands, Texas, where he continued to grow in his faith and community.
Those who knew Joe remember him as loyal, generous, loving, and protective—a man who constantly put others first and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. His life was marked by quiet strength, steady kindness, and a deep devotion to the people he loved.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Betty Roberts, and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Landrum. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Roberts; his children Tiffany & David Hendrix and Misty & Grady King; and his bonus sons and their wives, Donnie Rogers, Ronnie & Leigh Rogers, and Steven & Shannon Rogers. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Cory Clark; Geoffrey & Jessica Rogers; Ethan Hendrix; Bryce & Adrienne Rogers; Jeron Rogers; Seth Rogers; Koby Rogers; Lainey Hendrix; Shelby King; Jackson King; Mason & Natalie Landry; Dillon & Ashley Landry; and Dustin & Madison Landry. His great-grandchildren—John Rogers, Gavin Rogers, Kit Rogers, and Anthony Joe (A.J.) Rogers—brought him tremendous joy. He is further survived by his siblings, Gary & Susan Roberts and Barbara Landrum, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 9th at 1:00 PM at Family Faith Church in Willis, Texas. All who knew and loved Joe are welcome to attend.
