John Allan Nelson entered eternal rest on January 22, 2025. He was 91. John was born on July 4, 1933 in Sioux Falls, SD and grew up in Inwood, Iowa. He was passionate about his service to his country in the US Army, the Chicago Cubs, his Norwegian culture and, of course, his family. He was very proud of being a Papa and Great-Papa.
He is reunited in death with his wife JoJean (Joey) Nelson, parents Johan (John) Nelson and Ingrid Nelson, brother Sigurd (Sam) Norman Nelson (Mary Nelson), brother Walter (Walt) Morris Nelson (Fern Nelson), son Michael Allan Nelson, and grandson Justin Edmund Pard.
His legacy is survived by his three children and their spouses: Cheryl (Edmund) Dusablon, Charleen (Dennis) Pard and John (Traci) Nelson, six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and his beloved dog Fredy.
John was an antique car enthusiast and owned a 1949 Chevy. John and Joey loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Canada, Norway, Hawaii and many other wonderful places. The annual family camping trip to San Antonio Lake, CA was always a highlight. He was always up for a game of cards with friends or game of dice with his kids. In his later years, one of his favorite pastimes was taking his loving pup, Fredy, for a walk around Woodlands Lake in Lakeside/Pinetop, AZ.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, Conroe, TX with interment to follow on Wednesday, March 5 at Mariposa Memorial Gardens in Mesa, AZ. The family kindly asks that you consider donating to a local animal shelter in his name.
