He will be remembered as a generous, hard-working, kind-hearted, thoughtful, wise, smart, helpful, athletic, and sensitive man whose steady presence brought comfort and strength to those who knew him.
Joe spent his early years in Augusta, Kansas, and his adolescent years in Hill City, Kansas, before moving to Conroe, Texas, where he lived through his teen and adult years.
He pursued his education with determination, earning an associate degree from Lone Star College and completing a Lineman associate degree in Pratt, Kansas. Joe built a strong career with Entergy, working in Kansas, the Dallas area, Conroe, and The Woodlands. He also took on contract work in California and Arizona, bringing the same dependable work ethic wherever he went.
Joe was the father of one daughter, Cora Martin, born in 2005, with Stephanie Granger. He was married to Trisha Bicknell from 2012 to 2023.
From an early age, Joe threw himself into life with energy and discipline. A good swimmer since he was three years old, he also wrestled in grade school and enjoyed BMX biking, surfing, bow hunting, fishing, and playing rugby.
Joe’s generosity was not limited to family and friends; it extended outward into the lives of neighbors and community. He was an award-winning beer brewer, helped older neighbors, and provided major start-up funding to help raise funds for a friend’s wife who had breast cancer. Above all, he was someone others could count on—always helping, always present when needed, and always willing to lend his time and strength without hesitation.
Joe was preceded in death by grandparents, Fred and Anne Carlyle, and John and Margaret Martin.
He is survived by his daughter, Cora Macaye Martin; parents Jerry and Angela Martin; brothers, Timothy Martin and wife Sheri, Jon Dane Martin and wife Missy, and Patrick D. Martin and wife Robyn; nephew and nieces, Alexander Martin, Melia Martin, Charles Martin, Zachary Martin, Hattie Martin, Nolan Martin, and Annabelle Martin.
