Karen Lee Abshier Williams (2/2/1941 – 12/26/2021), known to all her many friends and family members affectionately as “Toodles”, was born in Newgulf, Texas on Sunday, February 2, 1941, and died peacefully on Sunday, December 26, 2021, after a valiant thirteen-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the daughter of James Robert Abshier and Lois Lee Abshier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, George Abshier, Jon Abshier, and Wanda Alberts. Toodles is survived by her husband of sixty years, Julian Williams Jr, sons Bradley and Rodney Williams, daughters in law Deborah and Shelley Mac-Williams, and grandsons Lee, Charles, and Jesse Mac-Williams.
Toodles was a resident of Conroe from 1966 until her passing. She was a committed Christian and long-time faithful member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the Chancel Choir and Pathfinders Sunday School Class. Toodles graduated from Bay City High School and pursued studies as an accounting major at Sam Houston State University. She spent her professional career in partnership with her husband running the accounting department of their business, JS Williams & Company, which included the Wilkins Cleaners & Laundry Company in Conroe and other industrial laundry businesses throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Toodles and Julian were a model of how to have a successful marriage and work together.
Toodles loved music, loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and loved to sing and hear music praising His name. Nothing brought her more joy than to see and hear her sons, grandsons, and daughters in law perform and make music. Toodles loved children, loved family and friends, and cherished the fellowship she and Julian enjoyed with friends and family during their beautiful journey together.
Julian and the entire family are extremely grateful to the health care workers who were so incredibly helpful in caring for Toodles in her final months. Special thanks to Amanda, Erika, and Jolynn at Amedisys, and Stephanie from Senior Helpers.
A celebration of the life of Karen “Toodles” Williams will take place Monday, January 3rd at the First Methodist Church of Conroe at 11:00am. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the church. Visitation will take place for the public at 10:00am in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at 1:30pm in Garden Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions be sent to the First Methodist Church of Conroe Music Ministries.
