Lloyd was born on January 30, 1934 in Nashville, Michigan to Eileen and Lloyd Austin, Sr. He graduated Lakeview High School in 1952. He was co-captain of the basketball team and received many honors and his Varsity jacket. He also was affiliated with many clubs including drama, the newspaper, Hi-Y and L-Club. There he also gained lifelong friends with Bob Knight, Gary Morrison and Ron Dean, to just name a few. He attended Olivet College on a basketball scholarship. He was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1958.
Lloyd married Sherry Easterday in 1953 which created his two loving daughters who he cherished, Kim Renee and Periann. He was very proud of his girls and chatted with them almost daily to share memories and his love. That marriage dissolved which led him to the love of his life Joan Audrey. They married on May 10, 1968 and remained together for 57 years. She was a loving and devoted wife. They shared many years of travel, hosting holiday parties, organizing golf tournaments, Halloween costume parties, and many other adventures. They moved to Houston, Texas when the opportunity arose in 1980 and said, “We’re outta here!” and never looked back. There he met another lifelong friend, Walter Plagens who he shared many golf adventures including 3 hole-in-ones.
Lloyd had a very successful career in sales that included Archway Cookies, American United Life Insurance, Co., B.F. Goodrich, Spector Freight, and concluded with Consolidated Freightways when he retired in 1994. He had such a big personality, was very outgoing, he loved to wear a suit, have his picture taken and made friends everywhere with his big smile. Those are attested by the many awards and achievements he won through the years. He was a long time member of the Panorama Golf Course and was involved with many community and social activities.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Joan, brother Barrie, nephew Ronald, daughters Kim and Periann (Mike), grandchildren Cylie (Kainin), Melody (Coleman), Corey, Taylor (Hailee), Caitlin (Aaron) and Austin. Great Grandchildren Karder, Kohen, Kingslee, Karson, SylvieAnn, Tim, NoraKate, Eloise and Greyson.
