Lynda Rachel Wortham, age 84, peacefully entered God’s Kingdom on March 15, 2024 and is now back in the comforting arms of her awaiting husband watching over their family together once again. In true Lynda fashion, her final evening was spent socializing at happy hour with friends and a glass of wine at Woodhaven Assisted Living. She was beaming with joy of the stories from her previous weekend having the opportunity to witness her granddaughter walk down the aisle.
Lynda was born September 26, 1939 in New Boston, TX in her grandmother’s home. She grew up with Bowie County Pride and never forgot her roots. Her southern belle charm and glamour could be seen under the Friday Night Lights as a cheerleader for the New Boston Lions. After graduating from High School in 1957, she received her associate degree from Texarkana Jr. College before attending Sam Houston State where she graduated in 1961 with a Bachelors of Science. She had the great pleasure of pouring her heart into the youth as an educator for Burkburnett, Birdville, and finally Conroe ISD, where she retired from teaching in 1976.
We all know Lynda was extremely social. If there was a club or group that aligned with any one of her interests, you could bet she was involved. From Tennis groups to Aggie Moms’ club, or the Church group at First Baptist Conroe, she loved playing an active role. Lynda was fiercely proud of her family, and it could easily be seen by all the photos, programs, accolades, and cards that she held onto over the years. If her grandchildren had an event, you could always count on her filling a seat.
Lynda is survived by her son Cary R. Wortham and his wife Kelly of Conroe, Texas; two grandchildren, Chase R. Wortham (wife Taylor Wortham) and Kylie K. Eells (husband Bailey Eells) who she spoiled often; great grandson Cason Wortham; Sister Rhonda Murdock and her husband Jr. of Grapevine, TX; Brother-in-law Bill Thomas of Hooks, TX; Brother-in-law Gary Wortham and his wife Sharon of Fort Worth, TX; Sister-in-law Marilyn Youngkin and her husband Bill of Bryan, TX; numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored; and a very special “adopted” son and brother to Cary, Jeff Smith (wife Christine Smith) of Katy, TX. Lynda is preceded in death by her parents, Leemon Rachel and Pearlena Collom Rachel; Sister Glenda Thomas; and her lifelong partner C.R. “Randy” Wortham, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Conroe, with burial at Cashner Funeral Home.
