Martha Ann Browder was born December 16, 1936 to Anna Tenney Hale and Dr. Douglas McCardle Hale of Coldspring, Texas. She grew up in Coldspring and later graduated from Baylor University. At Baylor she made lifelong friends. A special few, referred to as “the girls” remained constant until the time of her death. After graduating and working in Houston for a short time she married Hardy Browder and they made their home in Old Waverly. Together they raised three children; Fielding Browder (Angela), Martha Carol (Terry Giese), and Leigh Ann (Kyle Elmore).
Martha Ann was a loving wife and a devoted mother. Her home was always filled with grand meals never complete without dessert and was the gathering place for all family holidays and many community showers, brunches and get togethers. Martha Ann was a past President of Care Share Mission; a member of the Women’s League in Coldspring; a member and past Regent of the Mary Martin Scott Chapter of the DAR. She has served Waverly Presbyterian Church well as Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. She was the pianist and Music Director for sixty-five years. Martha Ann set a beautiful example of a life well lived for her children and for her grandchildren (Kolt Browder; Riley (Tanner) Kieschnick; Julia Elmore; Sarah (Josh) Rohrer; Hardy Giese; and Kathryn Giese). She was lovely and she was loved.
Martha Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hardy Browder; her daughter, Amy Lois; and brother, Douglas L. Hale. She leaves many friends, her children, grandchildren, and two great granddaughters, Gentry Ann Giese and Eva Kyle Rohrer.
The family is especially grateful to the dedicated and loving caregivers who took such special care of their mother during the last several months and would like to say thank you to Charlene Lockett, Jackie Sanchez, Marguerite Morrison and Minnie Walker.
Martha Ann Browder was a daughter of the Living God and saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. “Her children rise up and call her blessed” Proverbs 31:28
