Megan Melissa Schneider, 51, passed away on August 24, 2025, at 7:25 p.m. in the ICU at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center in The Woodlands, Texas. Born with birth defects that left her paralyzed from the waist down and with other disabilities, Megan nevertheless lived a full and meaningful life. She found joy in every conversation, becoming an avid communicator who touched countless lives through her warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others. Never at a loss for things to say, Megan filled both phone calls and face-to-face encounters with her spirited conversation, leaving behind the gift of friendship and memories that touched lives in lasting ways.
Megan was born on April 13, 1974, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to William (“Bill”) Schneider and Margaret (“Peggy”) Schneider. She lived with her parents in Valparaiso until 1978, when the family moved to Conroe, Texas, where Megan made her home for the next several decades. She grew up with a strong love of learning, completing high school, a number of college courses, and advanced training in sign language, in which she became highly accomplished. In January 2025, following a hospital stay, she moved to the Woodlands Nursing and Rehab Facility in The Woodlands, Texas.
Throughout her life, Megan embraced every opportunity to take part in activities she enjoyed. As a young girl, she took swimming lessons and later went on to study college-level courses in sign language. She was also an avid bowler, participating in a local league where, using a bowling ramp and a ball without holes, she once scored an astonishing 286 starting with ten strikes in a row. She tried her hand at driving but couldn’t do it. With her instructor, she had a wreck driving at 15 mph in a parking lot with no cars except the one that ran into her. Above all, Megan’s greatest joy was attending camp each year through the Spina Bifida Association of Houston, Texas. Beginning at the age of six, she attended camp annually until the age of fifty, missing only two years—once due to a broken leg and once during the COVID pandemic. From its early days at J. Bar J. Ranch south of Houston to its later home at Camp for All near Brenham, Texas, camp offered Megan the chance to participate in activities like target shooting, archery, paintball, fishing, horseback riding, zip lining, motorcycle rides, swimming, and climbing the rock wall. More than the activities, however, she treasured the lifelong friendships she built at camp, which became one of the most meaningful parts of her life.
For her entire life, Megan was a devoted member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Conroe, Texas. She actively participated in church life, taking part in Christmas plays and sharing her gift of signing songs during worship services. Her presence and enthusiasm were a cherished part of the congregation for many years.
To know Megan was to love her. Everyone who came in contact with her throughout her life was touched by her warmth and kindness. She maintained close connections with friends from camp, relatives, schoolmates, and past teachers, and even kept in touch personally with one of her doctors. Megan’s gift for communication and genuine care for others created a wide circle of love that surrounded her always.
Megan was one of two children and is survived by her parents, Bill and Peggy Schneider of Conroe, Texas, and by her brother, Adam Bradley Schneider, and his wife, Jamie, of Montgomery, Texas. She also leaves behind three beloved nieces and nephews—Braeley, Camden, and Bowen Schneider who brought her great joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). While the church is located at 3500 North Loop 336 West, Conroe, Texas 77304, memorial contributions should be mailed to:
