Merrill Cooper Johnson, Sr. age 77, of Humble, Texas made his transition on January 14, 2021. Merrill, the oldest of three children born to the late Leroy Levi Johnson and Ruth Virginia Cooper Johnson was born October 11, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas. Merrill gave his life to Christ at an early age at the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. He was educated in the Kansas City Kansas School System attending Douglas Elementary, Northeast Junior High, and Sumner High Schools. On June 9, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Myrtha Dianne Buckner and together they went on to have two children, Merrill, Jr. and Stephanie Dianne.
Mr. Johnson’s professional life included a career as an Auto Salesman, Police Officer in the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, and finally retired after many years of service with the City of Houston Public Library. You could find Merrill chatting with neighbors on his front porch in his free time or singing in the choir at his beloved Mims Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas.
Merrill leaves to mourn his passing one son, Merrill Cooper Johnson, Jr of Atlanta, Georgia, one daughter, Stephanie Dianne Johnson of Carson, California, one brother, Earl Leroy (Nena) of Montgomery, Texas and one sister, Linda Kay Owens of Lewisville, Texas. He also leaves 5 grandsons: Matthew Ryan, Evan Micah, Corey Adam, Trevor Christian, and Nicholas Keon, one granddaughter, Alyssa Noelle, and one great-grandson Eli David, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Celebration of life will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11:00am CST at Mims Baptist Church (1609 Porter Road, Conroe, Texas 77301).
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Garden Park Cemetery, Conroe, Texas. The family has requested masks be mandatory while attending services.
