N. Carolyn Hurst, age 80, died on February 17, 2019 after a brief and merciful illness. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Garrett Vloedman, and mother, Nellie Marie Vloedman, as well as her brothers Jerry Neil Vloedman and Garrett Eugene Vloedman. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Leroy Hurst, and her second husband, Donald Alphonse Ross.
She is survived by her brother Garrett Michael Vloedman and her sons, Gerald Daimon Hurst, and Jason Derek Hurst. She is also survived by two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Carol was well-loved by all of her close friends and family. She was an exceptionally strong and intelligent woman who forged a wide path through life with determination and a good sense of humor. She was a mother, a computer programmer, an artist, and a self-employed dynamo in real estate management and investment. She knew the value of a penny, but gave freely of herself. She grew up in various locations around Oklahoma City with her family and extended clan. After her marriage she traveled to Michigan, Iowa, England, Ohio and California. She lived most of her later life in the states of Washington and Texas building and renovating her own houses and rentals.
She was a rational, analytical, and detailed thinker, but also loving, sensitive, and compassionate to those close to her. She treasured and loved her sons most of all and was their best friend, confidante and counselor. Her curiosity about the world was extensive. Carol had many questions about the world and always searched for truth in her life and certainly expected it from others. We can only hope that she has now found the answers that she desired.
