Peggy was born on December 16, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to James Lowell & Avis Huffstutler Sylvester then she later became a proud & loving big sister to Richard & Georgia. From an early age, she was raised in a home where faith, hard work and love for family were the foundation of life.
After graduating in 1965 from Thomas Jefferson High school in Dallas, Peggy became a proud Texas Tech Red Raider, where she graduated in three years with a degree in Home Economics. She then sought a career that would allow her to serve others, which lead her to Conroe where she became an Assistant Home Demonstration Agent, overseeing the 4H Clubs for the Montgomery County Extension Service until she started her most treasured career as a full-time mother.
A devoted follower of Christ, Peggy found great joy in being active for many years in Women’s Bible Study Fellowship and The Vineyard Class at West Conroe Baptist Church, where she has worshiped since the church started as a mission in the early 80’s and later taught Sunday school. Her faith guided her through every season of life and she was known for sharing wisdom and prayer with those around her.
Outside of church, Peggy enjoyed gardening and was a proud member of the Montgomery County Master Gardener Association since 2004, where she enjoyed fellowship alongside other members, which turned into valued friends and her presence will be deeply missed.
Above all, Peggy loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Dave Smith, their children Marc Smith, Kristin Baker (Breck) and Holly Bowles (Robert), grandchildren Kelsie Shafer (Daniel), Rachel Smith, Ian Smith, Brayden Bowles (Kyleigh), Braxton Baker, Peyton Baker, Brenner Bowles and Brysonn Bowles, great granddaughter Allison Shafer, brother Richard Sylvester (Paula), niece Aria Sylvester, cousin Denise Denk (John) and many dear friends that were blessed by her love and friendship.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents James & Avis Sylvester as well as her sister and brother in law Georgia and Joseph Cortemeglia.
Visitation will be held at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 East White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304, on March 19, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday at 1:00 in the chapel of West Conroe Baptist Church at 1855 Longmire Road, with Dr. Jay Gross officiating. Graveside will follow at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
While her passing leaves an immeasurable void, those who knew and loved Peggy will forever carry the warmth, joy, and faith she so freely shared with the world and will rejoice in the assurance that Peggy is now resting in the presence of the Lord.
