Robert Hugh Campbell

Born in Montgomery, Alabama to Virginia Jones Campbell and John Ed Campbell, Bob is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Campbell Daily of The Woodlands, and Jennifer Campbell Cunningham of Houston, and their husbands, Ryan Daily and James Cunningham, as well as his four granddaughters, Madeline Findley (18), Emma Claire Cunningham (11), Avery Cunningham (9), and Isla Cunningham (6). He is also survived by his two sisters, Laura Campbell Klock and Harriet Renee Campbell. Bob lost his beloved wife of 45 years, Betty, in 2018. He loved and missed Betty dearly, and we take great comfort in knowing they are reunited.

Bob and Betty met in college at William & Mary, where Bob studied mathematics and computer science. They married in 1973 and then relocated from Virginia to Houston while he was working at Tenneco Energy. They moved to The Woodlands in 1987, where they raised their daughters. Bob played the French horn in several local symphonies, loved golf, and was an excellent pool player. Just in the last few years, he joined several pool teams, where he was affectionally nicknamed “Papa Smurf” by his teammates, who he referred to as “the team kiddos.” He also taught himself to play the guitar and could sing and play many songs by the Beatles.

Known as Grandbob to his granddaughters, and Mr. Bob to the kids in the neighborhood, he loved and was deeply loved by children. He found great joy in getting kids wound up with his silly antics, scootering around the Silverstrand cul de sac with a train of kids behind him on bikes and a pink ride on Jeep. He is greatly missed by his family and friends of all ages.

A celebration of life will be scheduled in early 2026.
