Sally Rochelle Maddux, a cherished resident of Conroe, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on October 21, 1939, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Warren and Mae Tatum, Sally’s life was a testament to her resilience and love for her family and others.
Sally’s academic journey began at Smiley High School, followed by three years at Sam Houston State University. After college, she began her career with Southwestern Bell, retiring in 1982. In 1995, Sally embarked on a new path, joining Dr. Jerry Bettinger as his office manager and moving to Tyler, Texas. After a fulfilling tenure, she returned to Conroe to be with her grandchildren.
Sally and her husband, Evan M. Maddux, shared a life of love and devotion. Over the years, they both enjoyed bowling and golf. Sally’s passion for bowling led her to achieve an impressive 160+ average. In 1968, they joined Conroe Country Club, where they made numerous lifelong friends. Sally’s golf skills earned her multiple Senior Women’s Club Championships. Sally and Evan were also members of The Ark Church and actively participated in the Senior Groups, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. She was especially known for her warm smile and heart of gold.
Sally’s love for her family was evident in her role as a mother and as a beloved Nana. Her passing leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Evan M. Maddux, and her son, Billy Joe Maddux. Her son, Curt Maddux, and his wife, Tanya, of Conroe survive her, along with five grandchildren: Tatum Rochelle Adam and her husband, Tim; Evan Curtis Maddux; Natalie Ann Lopez and her husband, Christopher; Matthew Curtis Maddux; and Sydney Hudson Maddux. Additionally, she is survived by four great-grandchildren and her honorary family, The Sebastians.
A Celebration of Sally’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Alan Clayton.
We express our deepest gratitude to John Fernandez and Pastor Alan Clayton of The Ark for their unwavering love and prayers during this difficult time. We also want to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Heritage Oaks and Devotion Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
Sally’s nephew, Mike, beautifully encapsulated her unique qualities: “Aunt Sally was one in a million—there was no one like her! I’m sure countless people felt the same as I did: when you were with her, you felt like the most special and important person ever. It’s amazing how she managed to do that!”
In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that memorial donations be made to The Ark Church Outreach at 450 Humble Tank Rd., Conroe, TX 77304.
